Gone Fishin'

Oil on canvas (Reworking of an original piece)

Here's the story:
A friend of mine used to spend her holidays out in the countryside with her family and they would have dinner and whatever in the local pub down there. And On the wall in this pub, was a painting of 2 little girls (yes, that's a girl) going fishing in the local bay. And as the tale goes, my friend had always been told that the two girls in the picture were her and her sister and the artist was a local man who painted in that area around about the same time that they had been there, as children, doing exactly that same thing. Now, no-one is quite sure whether or not it's true but the owner of the pub was obviously convinced because when it came to the day that he was discarding the picture, he gave it to my friend's mother. And there it sat, sunbleached, with it's smoke and moisture damage, on her livingroom wall, for many a year... untill I came along and was given the task of repainting it on a fresh canvas.

It's no-where near as good as the original but I was fairly pleased with the results. So much so, that it's one of the few paintings I've done, that I would actually hang in my own house.
